National Creativity Day: Permission to Get Weird, Granted

Let’s talk creativity. Not the Pinterest-perfect, “I made this out of dryer lint” kind. I’m talking about the messy, wild, probably caffeinated type of creativity that hits at 2 AM and makes you wonder if glitter is a business expense (it is, by the way). So on National Creativity Day: Permission to Get Weird, Granted!

Welcome to National Creativity Day, aka the holiday for people like us—the visionaries, the scribblers, the ones who talk to themselves in Target because we just had a content idea in the shampoo aisle. (Don’t lie—you’ve done it.)

Whether you’re a full-blown artist, a side-hustle queen, or a parent trying to figure out how to make dinner from five random pantry items and a prayer—you are creative. Period. And today, we celebrate that.

But What Is Creativity?

According to NationalToday.com (aka the holy grail of obscure-yet-amazing holidays), National Creativity Day was founded to inspire everyone to unleash their imagination. It’s not about being a “creative professional.” It’s about being a human being with ideas.

Spoiler: creativity isn’t just painting sunsets or editing Reel transitions like a pro. It’s how you solve problems, it’s turning a thrifted blazer into a statement piece, it’s styling your content calendar like it’s NYFW.

Why It Matters (Especially Now)

Post-pandemic, post-threads-of-doom-scroll, and post-everything-feeling-like-a-hot-mess, creativity is the thing that helps us adapt. Innovate. Keep going. It’s the best business tool and life skill you have. And it’s 🆓

At AB-FAB Designs, creativity is how I went from fitting clients on my living room floor to running a virtual content studio (while being a single mom, no less). I use it to build brands, edit viral videos, and turn a blank Canva page into chef’s kiss graphics that sell.

The secret? I don’t wait for inspiration. I schedule it. (And occasionally bribe it with tea🍵)

So, How Should You Celebrate?

Here’s how to make the most of #NationalCreativityDay today:

  • Sketch something. Even if it’s a triangle. Go off, Picasso.
  • Style an outfit just for fun—even if you’re only walking to your fridge.
  • Repost one of your fave past creations (because creative wins deserve a second life).
  • Dance like no one’s watching. Or like your content calendar just filled itself. 💃🏼
  • Make a mess. Make magic. Make a TikTok while you’re at it.

My Challenge to You

Before this day ends, do one thing that makes your inner creative smile. Then share it with me. Tag me. DM me. Pigeon-carry it to me if you must. Let’s remind the world that creativity isn’t optional—it’s the vibe.

Today, I went to the beachfront with my kids. I found a sea shell and gave it to my 4 year old daughter and said “You can hear the ocean if you put this to your ear.” She put the shell to
her ear and screamed. There was a hermit crab inside and it
pinched her ear. She never wants to go back! LoL I know this is completely off topic but I had to tell someone!
